James R. Clary, Jr. has been a trial lawyer for over forty years. Seeking full measures of justice for his clients in courtrooms all across the country is the only thing that he has ever wanted to do in his professional life.

After securing both his B.A. in Journalism (1980) and his Law Degree (1983) from Louisiana State University, Jim started his statewide practice. He was later selected to attend and graduated from the 2002 Class of Trial Lawyer's College (TLC). He is honored to currently serve as a member of the Board of Directors for the College and was elected in 2014 as the College's Treasurer -- an office he has held for a decade. Beginning in 2004, Jim was nominated to the teaching faculty of TLC, where he has taught various aspects of trial law for almost 20 years. He remains in these capacities at TLC, an institution wholly devoted to obtaining justice for the injured, the accused and the least powerful among us.

A native of Baton Rouge, Jim was educated in the public school system. Although he has traveled extensively, he has never wanted to leave the city. Clary Law Firm opened in February of 1993. Although it has grown quite a bit over 30 successful years, the firm prides itself in its representation of ordinary folks and small businesses - usually against the bigger guys. For over forty years, his practice has focused upon plaintiff personal injury matters, commercial litigation, criminal defense and representing lawyers, doctors, nurses, and other professionals in matters involving hearings with their governing boards. During this period of time, he has also been pleased to assist his clients in family courts and in moving through the legal situations that often face ordinary people."

This work has been the honor and privilege of his life.

Throughout the experiences of 4 decades in practice, he has often explained to his business clientele that a trial lawyer has wrestled in court with every type of legal dispute imaginable. Thus, he has come to understand that many of the expensive litigation disputes faced by business clients could have been avoided if they had retained an experienced trial lawyer early on in their business practices, instead of waiting for business pressures and personalities to boil over into intractable disagreements. Trial lawyers know what old soldiers know: the best way to enjoy success is to avoid unnecessary and avoidable legal wrangles. At Clary | Suba | Neale, Mr. Clary and his team have the requisite experience to provide just that sort of guidance.

Some fights have to be fought, however. When those moments come, Jim provides the experienced, diligent representation that only 40 successful years in the trenches can provide. We don't want our clients to needlessly fight if justice can be obtained otherwise. But -- when we MUST fight -- we want to WIN.

Jim has had the honor of litigating before judges and juries in just about every judicial district within the State of Louisiana, all of the Louisiana federal courts and in other courts throughout the country. Through that process, his clients have learned that - when the fight comes - Clary | Suba | Neale will always be completely prepared.

We understand that ordinary people, small businesses, and professionals need to have access to their lawyers when they have questions or need guidance. Mr. Clary prides himself on always making himself available for clients whenever they need him.

He is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association and Baton Rouge Bar Association. He is admitted to practice in all Louisiana courts and before the Eastern, Middle and Western United States District Courts in Louisiana and the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal.
