One thing that you shouldn’t do is allow your emotions to rule the decisions that you are making. It might help if you take a step back before you make choices now. We can help you evaluate the ones that are available to you.

Property division is a huge component of some divorces. This is also an area that emotions might creep into. You may feel a strong attachment to some of the assets that you have amassed, which is fully understandable. You can’t let this lead you to trying to keep assets that are going to be a source of stress for you.

For example, keeping the house might seem like a good idea until you realize the financial implications you will have to deal with. You have to be able to pay the mortgage, utilities, insurance, taxes, upkeep and repair costs without neglecting other areas of your life. We know that this isn’t something that you might want to think about, but facing it now might help you to avoid problems in the future.

Another area that is often filled with emotions is child custody. You have your ideas about raising the kids and your ex will have some too. When these don’t match, contentious situations can come up. In these cases, you have to be willing to put your own wishes aside and think about what is best for the children.

We know that you want to protect your own interests. We are here to help you accomplish this so that you are able to have a good footing when you start off on your single life.
